OnRamp Access Remains Cool on Hot Topic of Green
AUSTIN, TX - Nov. 19, 2007- As Austin’s original “green” Internet operations company, OnRamp has been successfully evolving alongside the ever-changing Internet landscape, while maintaining its commitment to the environment and community since its inception in 1994. From the company’s humble beginnings providing dial-up service, to its evolution as a multi-million dollar global Internet operations company operating one of Austin’s only green Data Centers, OnRamp was built on a simple idea: To provide all of the services necessary to conduct and manage business on the Internet in the areas of Colocation and Managed Servers.
Going Green – Austin’s Only “Green” Internet Operations Company
In 2003, OnRamp relocated to a 15,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Data Center after nine years in downtown Austin. In August of 2005, OnRamp became the first Internet Service Provider and Data Center in Texas powered by 100% green energy. As an Austin GreenChoice® Champion through Austin Energy, 100% of OnRamp’s power comes from renewable energy such as wind power. Today, OnRamp finds that companies nationwide are more inclined to conduct business and align themselves with a “green” company like OnRamp as a way to demonstrate environmental and social responsibility.
“We are proud to be the first Internet operations company in Texas to exclusively use green power,” said OnRamp Founder and President Chad Kissinger. “’Going Green’ is a popular topic and we have noticed a shift towards businesses becoming more environmentally conscious. Our customers care about the environment and so do we. We also believe that our commitment to being environmentally responsible gives our customers an edge over their competitors that do not use green power.”
OnRamp’s commitment to energy efficiency goes beyond utilizing green power. The company recently completed improvements in the design and implementation of its cooling system, leading to a reduction in electricity and an increase in reliability. More efficient power equipment, including best-in-class air handling units, surge suppression units and UPS system ensure that OnRamp’s Data Center consumes less energy.
Kissinger continues to look for new and improved ways to foster an environmentally and socially-conscious workplace. In addition to a company-wide recycling program, OnRamp makes giving back to the Austin community a top priority. Since its inception in 1994, the company has offered free hosting and pro-bono services for dozens of local non-profit organizations.
About OnRamp
In 1994, the information superhighway was a term unfamiliar to most and even fewer realized the tremendous impact the Internet would have on conducting business. OnRamp founder Chad Kissinger recognized the Internet’s future as a global information system and, in that same year, introduced the Internet to weekend shoppers with a kiosk at Barton Creek Mall in Austin, TX. Within a year of its inception, OnRamp's Internet backbones provided dial-up, ISDN and T-1 service while the racks in the company’s Data Center began filling up with servers from colocation and managed server customers. As the need for Internet connection, server storage and management increased, so did the demand for websites. The expansion of OnRamp's customized Internet services led to the formation of one of Austin’s original and largest web development departments and the creation of more than 700 websites and applications, including sites for the State of Texas, Earl Campbell, the Girl Scouts Lone-Star Council and James Avery Craftsman.
Today, OnRamp is still the only Data Center in Austin and Central Texas to provide a single source for all of the services and resources to fully integrate a company’s Internet operations. Consistently ranked among the top service providers in the Austin Business Journal’s “Book of Lists,” OnRamp is one of Austin’s original Internet companies continuing to achieve growth and success amidst the high tech ebb and flow.
